 SUMMER CAMP 2013 - JUNGFRAU
The next day was a "rest" day. In other words, no hiking. Except, we are 3rd Gidea Park so we decided to change the definition of "rest" day to downhill hiking only.

SCOUTS

We took a pre-booked minibus from the Scout Camp to Lauterbrunnen station from where we caught a train on the Wengernalp Railway to Kleine Schiedegg station (2061m) where we changed trains onto the Jungfrau Railway which would take us up to Jungfaujoch. (3453m) We would play up there for a while before dropping back down to Kleine Schiedegg station (2061m) and walking down to Grund Station (943m) a drop of 1118m. Except being 3rd Gidea Park Scouts, some of us decided to get off early at Eigergletscher (2320m) and Walk the Eigertrail down giving us a knee shattering 1377m decent in 9km.

Above, the views from Jungfaujoch. Below, a bit of sledging and a spot of snowball cricket. 3GP Scouts are easily identifiable as being a hardy bunch they are all wearing shorts in the snow!

YOUNG SCOUTS & EXPLORERS: Total Distance 9k and Total Climb -1118m
OLDER SCOUTS: Total Distance 9k and Total Climb -1377m

Marked Blue on the map below is the route most of us took. Marked Red is the route the oldest Scouts and a few leaders took along the Eiger Trail to meet the main route down.

THE EIGER

The older Scouts jumped of the train a stop early with one of the leaders to walk the Eiger Trail and get a close look at one of the most famous climbs in Europe.

Our path took us across a few snow fields but rewarded us with fantastic views over Grindelwald.

Of course, there is always time for a spot of extreme snowball cricket.
