SCOUTS & YOUNG LEADERS SUMMER CAMP 2013
TR>

Well here we are again, back at Kandersteg International Scout Centre. Travel was a little different this time with most Scouts travelling out in a hired mini bus and the Explorers in the Cub leaders Land Rover. Three leaders flew out.

EXPLORERS

The first day in Kandersteg was spent setting up tents and settling in. The leaders still recovering from the journey like to run a hike on the next day and they like it to be one they don't have to think much about. Our old friend, Oeschinensee via the Wanderruksack checkpoint at Biberg. But it wasn't enough to keep the Explorers entertained so they embarked on an additional loop to pick up a few Gold Wanderruksack checkpoints.

SCOUTS: Total Distance 10.5k and Total Climb 701m (A nice warm up)
EXPLORERS: Total Distance 17k and Total Climb 1354m (Just a bit more than Ben Nevis.... as a warm up!)

Gradient

Marked Blue on the map below and the gradient profile above was our route up, red the Explorer's extra bit and Yellow our route back. Meters altitude on the above chart are above sea level.

CHECKING THE MAP

This hike starts with a stiff climb which provides quick gratification with views of the town below. As always we split into manageable hike groups meeting up at a couple of pre arranged points.

This was the Scouts first oppourtunity to grapple with Swiss Maps.

After a quick dip in the lake, the Scouts visited the lakeside cafe for icecreams while the Explorers nipped off for thair excursion to collect more of the Wanderruksack checkpoints.

The day ended back at our campsite with us all cooking together.
