SCOUTS EXPEDITION CHALLENGE SUMMER CAMP 2016
Expeditions were traditionally always a big part of 3GP summer camps but because we have been actively participating in the District's Barton Challenge Expeditions we haven't felt the need to run summer camp expeditions. This has left a bit of a gap in summer camp and this year we decided to fill the gap.

THE FIRST BOAT

We split the Scouts into two teams with a leader walking with each team. One team started near Hawkshead and headed over LatterBarrow, the other started at Wray Castle. Both teams ended up at the pint half way down the west bank of lake Windermere where the ferry crosses.

One excited Scout commented that other than canoes and rafts with the Scouts this was her first boat ride. (She will like tomorrow!)

LAKE VIEW
Once across the lake the first team stopped for lunch which was when the second team caught up for a chat.

After lunch we didn't get far before stopping at the slipway for a comfort break and a drink. It was hot so a rest in the shade was appreciated before the next climb.

VIEW STOP

It was a bit of a climb through the outskirts of town up into the countryside but one off the roads the Scouts took over navigating once again. We knew we were nearing our destination in good time so time was taken to appreciate the views. We were heading for Great Tower National Scout Camp Site for an overnight camp.

ON THE ROCK

The Scouts put up their expedition tents and cooked their own dinner in pairs.

After dinner, as the sun set we walked the Scouts to the highest point on the camp site from where they could watch the sun setting over the mountains.

Hiking Boat 2

After breakfast the Scouts broke camp and loaded the tents into the mini bus before starting the second day of hiking. They hikes down to the National Trust Garden at Fell Foot from where they caught the second boat of the expedition to Lakeside.

From here we got a connecting ferry all the way back to Bowness where the Scouts spent some time in town.
