SUMMER CAMP 2013 - THE FINAL DAY

The last day was spent mainly packing tents away and then getting to a last camp fire. But the day started with an outdoor breakfast together.

Summer camp fire's at Kandersteg are like mini festivals. The arena is packed to capacity and beyond, a few thousand young people from all over the world will be entertained by acts in different languages. That number of people jumping up and down to something as simple as "heads shoulders knees and toes" creates quite a vibe.

WHAT NEXT?

Two of our Young Leaders got more than they bargained for when they were invited down as “volunteers” to be part of other group’s entertainments. They ended up being an active part of the performance in front of a crowd of thousands.

To save time on the last day, the Scouts had made a bivvy for the final night.

Most of us left the site early in vehicles for the long drive back to Gidea Park but three leaders got to hang around. We were catching the train back to Geneva Airport for an evening flight. This gave us time for sight seeing in Bern where we witnessed what looked like a most bizarre commute home. A shirtless man, strolled out of an office, across the road and jumped in the river in the picture below. No attempt at swimming, they just let the current carry them downstream where they climbed up a ladder, walked back across the street and into a house.
