Eventually the nail bomb was reviled as a pair of crampons!

We arrived in Brussels with about an hour to kill before our sleeper train arrived.  Some of us took the opportunity to nip out and explore the part of the city near the station. Not the best part of Brussels!

Arrival in Brussels

The sleeper train takes us all the way from Brussels to Kandersteg in Switzerland, no changes.  It arrived in Kandersteg at 8:24am.

Mind your head!
As every leader knows, getting scouts to sleep on the first night of camp is always a problem.  This is no easier on a moving train but at least you can entertain them by opening the huge windows and encouraging them to watch Europe go by.  Just make sure none of them lose there heads.

In the picture on the left the train is travelling through Luxembourg at about 70mph.  But continental railways are more spaced out than ours and leaning out is much safer.

Still the risk of getting a fly in your eye is still high so after the photo was taken everyone leaned back in.

The Ventures soon settled into their room...

When organising a summer camp in a foreign country, its always handy to have Leaders who have been there before. This lot had at least seven previous trips to Kandersteg between them with many more to come.

We were sleeping six to a compartment and when the other five members of your compartment aren't sleeping, you may as well step out into the corridor and watch Europe slide by.

Getting all our kit of the train in Kandersteg is always fun.  The train only stops for a couple of minutes.

Once again the big windows come in handy.  Most bags exited through them!
