Travelling to Switzerland is always fun.
Arranging the travel is always Hell as I am sure Andy L will tell you.

The options are either to fly, go by coach or go by train.  If we fly we still have to get everyone to and from the airport at either end.  Plus none of the leaders particularly relished the idea of waiting in an airport with a load of Scouts.

The leaders also didn't fancy spending the best part of two days sitting on a coach.  The idea of sitting on a coach for two days with scouts was torturous.

So we get the train all the way there.  This has the added bonus of enabling us all to hang out the window and see Europe zoom by.  Plus we get bunk beds to sleep in and the scouts get there own compartment away from the leaders.
All of our tents get packed onto the trailer which the GSL drives over whilst we are travelling on the train.  However each time we have been, some of the kit hasn't quite fitted on.  So the Ventures have to drag a large heavy wooden box around the London underground and on and off Various trains.
At Waterloo with the coffin

In previous years we have taken the boat to Belgium and then caught the train.  This year we decided to cut three hours off our journey by getting the Eurostar to Brussels.

Fun with the coffin on the escalator.
We then get the same sleeper train from Brussels that we would have got if we had left three hours earlier and got the boat.

When travelling by train the scouts and leaders can get up and stretch there legs by going to the restaurant car for a coffee.

This isn't so nice on a coach.

Checking in at Waterloo for the Eurostar was made more exciting when the security guard operating the x-ray machine accused Mark the Scout leader of having a device in his rucksack with sharp metal spikes and wires coming out of it. He thought it was a nail bomb!
