From the bridge, some of the leaders and RVU crew members continued up to the Doldenhorn Hut. The rest of the group went down to Oschinensee for a quick dip.

The Doldenhorn Hut group consisted of Dave, Ross, Andy L, Andy J, Geoff and Derek. Once they reached the hut it was obvious that the Frunden hut was never going to be possible as it was too late in the day already. Instead Dave, Mark and Andy practiced their crevasse rescue technique. A crevasse is a crack in a glacier which can be hundreds of meters deep. The idea is that by roping together if one person falls down a crevasse then the others can stop him falling too far and then pull him out again. The first part is to stop everyone following the falling person into the crevasse. This is achieved mainly by being alert at all times and leaning against any fall. From here it should be possible for the faller to either climb out or prussic up the rope. However if they are unconscious or unable to rescue themselves then a pulley system can be employed to winch the person out. It was the winching technique and general rope technique that was practiced.

Rather than having an exciting ice bound hike across to the Frunden we did some high altitude rope work before consoling ourselves with a crack at the imfamouse Blue Route between the Doldenhornhutte and I de Schielfe.

This picture is taken where the path narrows on approach to the cliffs.

Further allong the path and it has narrowed and is more exposed.
