The lake Oeschinensee hike was the first hike of the KISC 2000 campaign. The aim of the hike was to get everyone acclimatised to hiking in the alps as well as giving everyone the opportunity to swim in an alpine lake. Lake Oeschinensee is situated below the Bluemlisalp group towards the East of Kandersteg and is approximately very cold. The scouts must swim in the lake if they want to get their High Adventure Award.

The hike starts from the campsite and is a pleasant jaunt straight up the side of the U shaped valley. Eventually the ground flattens off somewhat and a bridge is reached. The bridge is the site for the customary group photo. From here those that want to can climb another 600m or so to reach the Doldenhorn hutte and hence gain part of their Huttentest Award. Those that don't feel any desire to go up any more when the lake is below them can proceed straight to the lake for a dip.

The plan for this year was that the leaders and older RVU would reach the Doldenhorn hutte and then continue across a glacier high above the lake to the Frunden hutte before finally descending to the lake. However this plan never became reality due to an extraordinary amount of faffing that was undertaken before the hike was started.
