SAT 11:45 am
The camp started with a quick troop circle in Gidea Park Station Car Park. Family members and other well wishers looked on as details of our travel arrangements were explained and travel cards were issued.

GETTING ON THE JUBILEE LINE AT STRATFORD

LUNCH ALREADY

Most young people have been on holiday in a car, or on a plane. Long distance travel by train is something most of our Scouts and Explorers wont have experienced. We like to travel to Kandersteg by train because we get to see more of Europe. We see more cities and meet more people than we would by flying. We could sit on a coach for two days but on a train we have space to get up and walk around. And space to sleep.

Our Journey started at Gidea Park station. We changed at Stratford onto the Jubilee Line and got off at Waterloo.

ARRIVING AT BRUSSELS STATION

From Waterloo International we took the Eurostar to Brussels. Once through the Channel Tunnel, the train traveled at 186mph on the French and Belgian High Speed Lines.

SATURDAY EVENING
We unfortunately had a four hour stop over in Brussels between trains so we took the opportunity to do a bit if site seeing. Some of the leaders and Scouts wondered off through a fun fair and found the town square where we soaked up some continental cafe culture.

We all stocked up on supplies for the overnight journey and returned to Brussels station to find our train.

THE NIGHT TRAIN

From Brussels to the Swiss border we traveled on the night train. The Six Leaders slept on six bunks in the leaders room. The Six Explorers dosed on six bunks in the explorer room. The six scouts staged a riot for six hours on the six bunks in the scout room.
