Bunny Warrens's book, A History of Romford Scouting tells us that 3rd Gidea Park was origonally a section of 1st Gidea Park but split off as in independant group in the 1930s. A short time later 1st GP moved to Arnaud Lodge in Slewins Lane. In 1946 1st GP became part of the new Squirrels Heath district and it was probably at this time that it changed its name.

3GP has always been based at St Michaels Church except for during the war when the church hall was used as a respirator centre.

Below is a copy of the original group registration document for 3GP kept in the head quarters archive. The date of registration is October 22nd 1935 with F.W.Rowswell having signed the form as Scout Master.
